The pedestrian environment around Waterloo Station is a disgrace. It is arguably one of the worst in Central London.
Major improvements will be possible with the development of Elizabeth House and we are proposing to do the following: |
| |
|
| 1) |
Provide a much better pedestrian route from York Road up to Victory Arch which does not mean crossing so many roads. |
| |
|
| 2) |
Provide a new pedestrian friendly ‘street’ between the new development and the Waterloo International Terminal building where the taxi and service area is now. |
| |
|
|
|
| 3) |
Provide new escalators into the Station at platform level from the new street so that people can go directly from the station to the London Eye and St Thomas’s Hospital. |
| |
|
| 4) |
Provide a new access straight into the Underground ticket hall from York Road. |
| |
|
| 5) |
Remove the central ‘island’ from York Road so that we can make the pavements wider for people. |
| |
|
| By creating three buildings on the site of Elizabeth House we can stop it being a barrier to the station and open up the area with public spaces for people to move through easily. |
